Mr. & Mrs. Dracula

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Dracula. This deadly couple would often show up in my make-believe stories as a kid.

This single doll was made by me based on a topsy turvy doll I have of Little Red Ridinghood. I’ve always loved the idea, and yet haven’t seen a whole lot of them around, so as soon as I was invited to participate in DvA Gallery’s “Soft Sell” show in December I decided the right time had come to try one out. This doll started off as a test, but I think I may put it in anyway.

You can see a full view of both characters over here at Seven Deadly Sinners.

I’m not sure what you call these, (animated art montage?) but they’re pretty darn cool. The first animated painting is one canvas that continually transforms; the second consists of four canvases that move around like a puzzle and are painted on; and the third example is more like a sketch pad and is done to the music of Neko Case (I think I’ll be getting this album now, and maybe some of this loose style will rub off on me).

Thanks Stephen

All Soul’s Day

“Dead of Night”
Acrylic on Hardboard

For all those uncleansed souls that may not have anyone to pray for their atonement for past transgressions, I like to think that on All Soul’s Day some of them might get together on the other side and make purgatory a little more exciting.

The City Morgue

Tonight was a night of ghoulish delights on the Haunted Vancouver Trolley Tour. We heard hair-raising tales of betrayal, revenge and the undead; were followed in a dark graveyard by mysterious beings; and heard more than most would want to know about what really happens at an autopsy. The last takes place at what used to be the old city morgue which is now the Vancouver Police Museum. An unexpectedly fascinating place that I plan on going back to real soon.
