Quite often my pictures have some sort of story behind them, and in particular, family stories. This one is based on my dad as a little boy when he decided to run away from home to become a cowboy in Montana. Being the early 30’s, I suppose spending the night in a cemetery wasn’t such a big deal to parents, because after his frightful night he came home for breakfast and all his dad did was flick his ear.
On the other hand, the bone he’s holding here (although now looks a little naughty to me seeing it finished) is based on when I went to my dad’s grave site last year. I was sitting next to the headstone, trying to ignore my uncle’s constant jabbering about wanting to take my picture and who knows what else, when Rod spotted something white in the grass next to me. I pulled it out and it was a bone! The look on my uncle’s face was rather priceless, and I could practically hear my dad laughing at his own little joke.
By the way, I’m pretty sure it was a ham bone left by some dog. At least I like to think it was…
